| My
trip to Poland and Germany
Day 1
Today we came
to Oslo, where we waited for the bus that was to take us to Poland.
When the bus arrived Galleriet in Oslo, we got on the bus and drove
to Nesoddtangen school, where I think 22 students jumped on. They
were to travel with us to Poland and Germany. We drove from Norway
to Sweden that day. The night we spent on the big ferry from Sweden
to Poland. In the morning we arrived Gdynia.
Day 2
We were driving
bus all the day. I saw many funny things along the way. I noticed
especially the big difference between the Norwegian houses and the
houses in Poland. The things they had in their gardens such like
small statues of frogs and Santa Claus. That is something that we
never would see in Norway. The houses were made out of brick. The
gardens were not so very nice, they were almost "over grown",
with a bright turquoise fence. In my opinion they have no good taste,
what so ever. We went
travelling, until we came to a hotel, outside Crakow.
Day 3
We woke up early
that morning, all the tired students were to see Aushwitz . This
day brought moments of sadness and seriousness. We were showed around
and told stories about what had happened in this concentration-
camp. And at the different places around the campsite. Inside Auschwitz,
I had tears in my eyes more than once. Many peoples, innocent Jews
have suffered here. Women and children have not been treated fair.
They were punished , murdered, bossed around and executed in Auschwitz.
They burned the dead bodies and made mass graves, because there
were so many dead peoples at last, and all the prisoners had to
work hard every day. Many peoples were sick and ill, they did not
get so much food or water to drink. So many of them didn't have
energy left to work when they were ill. The rooms and beds were
in bad condition. And they had to be 12 persons in one of three
levels in the beds. One bed was a bed with three levels.
Day 4
This day was
totally different from the day we spent in Auschwitz. We drove into
the city Cracow. We went up to the Royal Castle at Wawel, it was
very nice, but they were repairing at the castle, so it would have
impressed me more if the sight was not disturbed by scaffoldings
. We went down from the Wawel Hill to the old city. The first we
did was to split up in groups. We went first to the Market Square,
one of the largest squares in Europe. Its centre is the Cloth Hall,
with trading stalls, built about 1358 by King Casimir the Great.
We went shopping around in the city. We hired some small golf cars,
which drove us around in the city for a cheap fare. It was nice
to see the city in a funny way like that. There were many small
shops around in the streets with draftings , paintings and big flower
shops with roses in many colours
Day 5
After breakfast
we drove to the well known Royal Salt Mines in Wieliczka not far
from Cracow, where salt was mined already in the second half of
the 13th century. We were showed around, along galleries, across
chambers and past underground lakes as deep as 125 m underground.
There were sculptures carved bye miners in rock- salt to be found
in chambers on the route. The natural beauty of the place attract
several hundred thousands of visitors each year. It was amazing
to stand there and look at those big chapels or rooms they have
made under the ground, thinking about all that big stone they had
taken all the 125 m up. And at the same time, see all the small
details that have been made.
I was a little
dizzy when we walked the first steps down and down, around and around.
One thing that was a little cool was that real mine workers worked
there. The guided trip ended of course next to a cafeteria where
we could buy food. After a little break , we took an elevator all
the 125m up again. That night we were all sleeping very well at
the hotel in Zary.
Day 6
We drove to
Berlin, the capital in Germany. First we had a bus sightseeing around
the city. Then we stopped to eat at The Hard Rock Cafe. After dinner,
we could go alone in groups, shopping and strolling in the city
on our own. It was a big city with lots of fashion and exciting
things to see. A very interesting city, stupid that we didn't get
more time to be there.
Day 7
This day we
visited Sachsenhausen and Ravensbrück. I was not joining all
of the guiding around in the concentration camp. But I am sure it
was almost as many terrible stories from this concentration camp
as in the other camps that we visitesd. We had dinner at Templiner
Hof. After visiting the camps we drove along to Swinoujscie.
Day 8
We arrived Ystad
around 08:00 o'clock.
We went by bus to Håby where we had lunch. Then we drove for
some more hours until we arrived Nesoddtangen . Here we said good
bye to our new friends. Then we went to Oslo city where we got on
another bus and drove home at night. That was the end of this amazing
trip.
