My Trip To Poland And Germany

At 20:00 on Friday the 12th September 2003 I was finished packing my things and I was ready to go on the school trip. The bus that I was supposed to take was planned to leave from Ørsta at 21:00. I had to wait almost 30 minutes before the bus came. Many of the students got on the bus, but someone was missing. I didn't notice that before the bus began to drive.

The bus drove almost for two hours and at 23:00 we arrived at "Kjøs bru". The missing students were joining us there. We continued driving for many hours, until we finally stopped at a place called "Galleriet" in Oslo. There we were met by a nice driver.

At Tangenåsen school we met the rest of our group. There were both parents and students, but no teachers in the group from Tangenåsen. Then our trip really began. I was surprised of how fast we got in contact with the other students. And when we came to Håby in Sweden I had already made a lot of new friends. After we had eaten some food and got something to drink we drove further into the country. I don't know that much about Sweden, because I slept when we drove there. We kept on driving until we came to Karlskrona, there the Polish boat waited for us.

We had to go to bed at 23:00, and that was very annoying. At the Tax Free I bought chocolate to eat on the trip, but I ate it all before I left the boat. That's just typical me. (He he!) The boat stopped at a place named Gdynia in Poland. From there we went by bus for hours and hours, and at this moment I was fed up with all the busdriving.

On Monday we visited the concentration camps. The first camp was Auschwitz, and that was the second biggest camp of them all. In Auschwitz we got a tour by a lady that was very hard to understand. She talked very bad English, and she didn't talk very loud.

In Auschwitz we got to see tons of hair, thousand pairs of shoes and many hundred glasses. It was awful to watch and realize that a normal person like me and you had been treated in such a horrible way. The living conditions were very bad for everyone in the camps.

The prisoners that had to be in such an awful camp had almost nothing to eat, and many prisoners starved to death. They that didn't starve to death were often tortured and humiliated. There were not many survivors from these camps because of the terrible conditions. Some prisoners were used in medical experiments, too.The German soldiers gassed prisoners that could not work in the camps. Both children and adults were gassed.

Later we spent a whole day in Cracow,we had to go in groups, so we didn't get lost.We could buy everything we wanted... Low prices made shopping exciting! I think Cracow was very fun because of the small golf cars that drove us round in the old city. The fares were low,it was almost free.

We also visited the Salt Mines, everything in there was made of salt.It was very impressive. In the beautiful chapel we took a group picture. The mine was very big, too. When we left the mine, we had to take an elevator that was very fast.

From Poland we went to Germany. The plan was to stay the whole day in Berlin, but because of heavy traffic and problems finding a parking space for the bus, we just got a few hours there. And that was very irritating, because it was hard to find the way. Berlin is a big city, you know.

It was really sad when we came to Tangenåsen again and dropped off the students and the adults. We said goodbye ,took some pictures and then we drove to Oslo,
